in UQ news The victory of ther UQDS at Easters in Sydney has attracted coverage on UQ's news website. Have a look at the article here. UQ hosts Queensland
Cup The annual Queensland
Debating Championships are being hosted for the first time by UQ, on Sunday,
May 13. The Queensland Cup, as the tournament is known, is a great chance
to get some more debating under your belt, to experience debating against
other unis (particularly if you haven't had a chance to go to an intervarsity
tournament yet) and is generally a really fun day, ending in a bit of
an after party. As well as all of that, UQ has won and been runner-up
at the last two Queensland Cups, so it'd be nice to keep that tradition
going. UQDS victorious
at Easters For the first time, UQ has won the Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships, commonly known as Easters, held at the University of Sydney over the Easter long weekend. The team of UQ4, comprising Alice Heathcote, Nihal Kumta and Oliver Badenhorst, defeated Melbourne 7 to win its first ever intervarsity tournament. Three other teams from UQ ranked in the top 16 although one was prevented from continuing due to a three team institutional cap. Adjudicators Erin O'Brien, Rob Leeds and Tom Gole also continued through to the later rounds but were unable to adjudicate the final due to conlfict of interest. This result is arguably the best ever achieved by the UQDS. Easters 2007 is
fast approaching The first major intervarsity tournament of the year is nearly upon us. Easters will be held by the University of Sydney from 5 April to 9 April this year, and already many people have expressed interest to attend. If you haven't yet heard of this tournament or have not decided whether or not you want to go, check out our information page here or go straight to www.easters2007.com. Team notification
and the draw If you do not have a team organised and would like to be placed in one, or if you need to let us know what your team formation is, please do so by emailing us at uqds@hotmail.com so that we can have our draw done by the start of this Tuesday's session and we can begin debates on time. Technical difficulties For some reason, some members are not receiving emails from the society even though we have their emails on our list. Sometimes this is because the emails were entered incorrectly but other times it may be because certain email accounts class the email as junk mail or the group emails, especially from our hotmail account, bounce back. If you suspect you are not receiving emails from the society when you shoud, please let our secretary Ben know. Also, check this website for updates; it is much more reliable than email. UQDS Bowls Day
this Sunday The UQDS is having its Traditional Barefoot Bowls Day this Sunday 18 March from 2:30pm at the St Lucia Bowls Club on the corner of Sir Fred Schonell Drive and Carr St, St Lucia. It's a 5 minute walk from Guyatt Park Citycat stop and about the same from the bus stop on Sir Fred Schonell Drive. Entry is $5. Lawn bowls experience is not required. Ferny Grove SHS
