The University of Queensland Debating Society
Welcome to the UQDS, one of the oldest and most active student societies at UQ. Debating has been a part of campus culture at UQ since its foundation in 1909, with the UQDS tracing our origins back to the early 1920s. Officially established in 1960, the UQDS has a proud history of allowing and preparing UQ Students to participate in and contribute to Public Discourse.
The UQDS hosts a weekly internal competition, public debates, regular social events and inter-varsity tournaments, as well as sending contingents of representatives to national and international competitions. Membership of the Society is available on Qpay.
Newcomers and first-time debaters are encouraged to join us for Training every Tuesday at 6:00PM in Forgan Smith Room E215, followed by Dinner at 6:45PM at the Saint Lucy Caffe e Cucina, with debates starting from 7:30PM.
