The UQ Debating Society is one of the University of Queensland’s oldest and most active societies. Your membership means you can participate in a competitive weekly competition on campus during semester, represent UQ at tournaments all over Australia and the world, receive training from some of the country's most awarded debaters, and enjoy regular social events.
We are a society for debaters with any level of experience. Our internal competitions are designed to help novices and beginners learn debate technique in a fun and informal setting, and we participate in Australia's major novice-specific tournament, held in Melbourne in April. In addition, UQ has been consistently ranked in the top 10 debating universities worldwide in recent years,with one of our members adjudicating the Grand Final of the World Universities Debating Champsionship over the summer break.
We would love for you to join us. We meet each week on Tuesday at 7pm in the Pizza Caffe for dinner, before moving to Forgan Smith building, where debates start at 8pm.
