External Competitions
The University of Queensland Debating Society has a strong tradition of debating at major intervarsity competitions. There is a selective trail system for members to represent UQDS at Easters, Australs Women's and Worlds. However, members are free to represent UQDS at intervarsity tournaments around Australia.
Easters
The National Intervarsity Debating Championship, known as Easters, is the premier novice debating tournament in Australia. It is debated in the Australasian Style and is held close the Easter holiday in April with the host university rotating each year.
Australs
The Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championship, known as Australs, is the premier debating tournament for universities in the Australasian region and is the second largest debating tournament in the world. It is debated in the Australasian Style and held in July with the host university rotating each year around the Asia and Pacific region.
Women's
The Australasian Women's Debating Championships is the premier debating tournament for female debaters in the Asia Pacific region. It is debated in the Australasian Style and is held a rotating host universities in the region.
Worlds
The World Universities Debating Championship, known as Worlds, is the Olympics of debating and the largest debating tournament in the world. It is debated in the British Parliamentary Style and held in late December to early January with the host university rotating each year around the world.
Minis
There are a number of mini debating tournaments that occur around the year and around Australia. UQDS traditionally has a strong presence at them. Some examples include MAD Mini, UNSW IV, ANU Spring, QUT Mini Melbourne Mini, Sydney Mini and WUPID.
Queensland Cup
The Queensland Cup is the premier intervarsity debating tournament in Queensland debated in Australasian Style in semester one each year rotating around the major Queensland universities.
